Formed in 1994 Vansteelandt BVBA is a privately owned company by structural engineer Tom Vansteelandt & land surveyor Bert Vansteelandt.

In the past a land surveyor was looking in the field for some specific measuring points. Today more and more the entire outside world is recorded at once and turned into a virtual model at the office. This approach is less labor intensive, safer, cheaper and faster. Such a virtual model is collected once but can be widely used for various applications. In this new way of working massive amounts of data (photos / point clouds) are collected and specific hardware and software configurations are necessary. This data is then processed in the office and eventually integrated into the client specific product. The virtual land surveyor is born!

The purpose of the surveyor is to capture geo-information, this is all related to the earth, but also everything that is connected with it. This makes surveying an extremely broad field. The expectations of our clients are very diverse. In order to meet them we often use a combination of different techniques to deliver the desired end product.

3D laser scanning

3D laser scanning makes it possible to rapidly survey inaccessible surfaces or complex geometrical details. It collects a huge amount of data in a short period of time and the detail is highly accurate.

Mounted on a tripod, a laser scanner works by bouncing a laser off a surface and uses the reflected laser to collect 3-dimensional (3D) data, forming a dense cloud of points to represent the surface.

The 3D laser scanner generates very large data sets made up of billions of points of data. To manipulate these scan data, specialist software is required. We are then able to view the surface in greyscale, in color or photo realistically from a digital camera. As with all survey data, the point cloud can be matched seamlessly with topographical survey.

Vansteelandt provides a full service and advice on all stages of your project from data capture, to post processing and delivery.

The biggest added value in 3D laser scanning is the creation of a 3D model. For that reason, Vansteelandt has gathered the required software and hardware and a team of experts in advanced point cloud processing, 3D modeling and BIM. We will build 3D models exactly how you want them to be built.

Mobile Mapping

In the last couple of years mobile mapping systems have become of age with drastically reduced cost and vastly improved accuracy and speed of data collection.

Vansteelandt works with a number of mobile mapping systems depending on project requirements such as accuracy and overall budget costs.

A mobile mapping system is made up of a camera and/or 3D laser scanner, GPS unit and IMU device.

Mobile Mapping systems are not restricted to cars, the systems we use can be mounted on any vehicle from a quad to a boat. This opens up a range of land and hydrographic mapping solutions.

Our services goes from lowend to highend lidar and photo data collection.

Drones & Photogrammetry

By acquiring raster or laser data from the sky we can gather millions of data points in one short flight. This results in huge time savings in the field, but increase in office time spent processing and utilizing data. Vansteelandt survey consultants are experts in processing huge amount of photos and point cloud data. Using drones in hazardous situations means staff safety is improved.

Vansteelandt uses drones or helicopters to produce aerial cartography to monitor and survey different architectural, civil and landscape projects. Photogrammetry techniques can be used for 3D reconstruction.
